SPEAKING OF SEX

Sexuality is identity, fun and difficult to describe in words. Culture, education and images from film and television shape our perception of it. APROPOS SEX tells the story of how sexuality was discussed, debated and thought about, and how this has changed over the course of a century. The exhibition invites visitors to look, ask questions and engage in conversation – with curiosity, reflection and without shying away from the ‘most beautiful thing in the world’.

Take a tour through memories of your own sex education and learn about the people involved, the services available and the media. We are certain that after visiting the exhibition, you will talk about sexuality differently!

In seven interactive areas, visitors encounter topics such as ‘Language and Sexuality’, ‘Sex Education’, ‘Setting Boundaries’ and ‘Media Lust’. They explore how sexuality is perceived by society and how the media and legal regulations influence personal sexual life. In the ‘Let’s Talk’ area, for example, the use of terms and feelings related to sexuality is taught in a playful way. The museum promotes open communication and education on sexual topics and invites visitors to question their own experiences and gain new perspectives.

The exhibition is aimed at visitors aged 14 and above.

Look forward to an inspiring exhibition talk with director Anja Schaluschke and Dr Annabelle Hornung, co-curator of APROPOS SEX and director of the Museum for Communication in Frankfurt. There will also be an artistic performance that poses the question, both tongue-in-cheek and seriously: How were you actually educated about sex? The a cappella band Gretchens Antwort will set the mood for the evening with their cheerful music.
