Are you ready to fight? Wann lohnt es sich zu streiten – und wann nicht? Die Reihe »Diskurs-Salon« geht diesen Fragen mit Expert:innen, Performer:innen und Ihnen auf den Grund. Die Salons greifen die vier Streiträume – GELD, LIEBE, MACHT & KUNST – der Ausstellung »STREIT. Eine Annäherung« auf und diskutieren dabei verschiedene Aspekte: Demokratie und Gleichberechtigung, Harmonie und Zoff und die Frage nach dem Kunst-Geschmack – ist DAS Kunst? Was denken Sie? Let’s fight about it!

Die Salons finden im Museumscafé Dallmayr statt.

ab 19 Uhr Social-Art-Space mit Food-Taste- und Sound-Performances der Künstler Ariel William Orah und Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi und Diskussionsrunden mit: Eva Bentcheva (Kunsthistorikerin) und Zoncy Heavenly (Künstlerin), N.N.

Matters of Taste. Was ist schön? Was ist hässlich? Was ist Kunst und was nicht? Wie schafft Kunst eine ästhetische Erfahrung? Kuratiert wird der vierte Diskurs-Salon vom philippinischen Künstler und Wissenschaftler meLê yamomo, der das Kaffeehaus und den Aktionsraum des Museum für Kommunikation Berlin in einen Social-Art-Space verwandelt.

Es entsteht ein offener Mix aus Sound-Labor, Social-Kitchen und Diskussions-Raum. An verschiedenen Stationen erleben die Besucher:innen Food- und Geschmack-Performances des indonesischen Künstlers Ariel William Orah. 

Akustische Erlebnisse verspricht die experimentelle Live-Musik des in Bangkok geborenen und in Java aufgewachsenen Komponisten und Musikers Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi, der auf selbstgebauten Trash-Instrumenten spielt.

Verwoben und eingebettet sind diese Interventionen in eine politische Diskussion rund um die delikate Frage des Kunst-Geschmacks. Denn wer entscheidet, was Kunst ist? Sind es Künstler:innen oder Institutionen – oder ist es das Publikum?

Gemeinsam diskutieren wir diese Streit-Fragen mit der Kunsthistorikerin Eva Bentcheva und der Künstlerin Zoncy Heavenly. Moderiert wird das Gespräch von der Kuratorin und Kunst-Aktivistin Promona Sengupta.

Matters of Taste. What is beautiful? What is an eyesore? What is art? How does art produce aesthetic experiences?

To explore these questions, Philippine artist and researcher meLê yamomo is turning the Museum of Communication Berlin into a social art space, creating an open mix of sound laboratory, social kitchen and discussion space. The different stations offer food and taste performances by artist Ariel William Orah as well as experimental live music by composer and musician Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi played on trash instruments from recycled waste. The discussion group addresses the political issues behind the tricky question of taste in art. Who decides what is art? Is it the artists or institutions – or the audience? Art historian Eva Bentcheva and artist Zoncy Heavenly join forces to debate this much disputed topic. The discussions are hosted by art activist Promona Sengupta.

The Discourse Salon series takes its inspiration from the four themed rooms – MONEY, LOVE, POWER, ART – in our current temporary exhibition ARGUMENTS. An Approach and discusses them in various formats. The four Discourse Salons are followed by three further events on 16 March 2023, 20 March 2023 and 21 March 2023 // WRESTLING. An audio walk with a live performance by hannsjana.
